BSB are one of the UK's most trusted fire damper manufacturers, with over 60 years of experience supplying fire dampers to commercial, residential, and public sector projects across the UK and Europe. At eFans, we stock the BSB FD-C Series — a circular single blade, externally resettable combination fire and volume control damper — available with next day delivery and full technical support.
The BSB FD-C is the standard specification circular fire damper for UK installations. Key features include:
- BS EN 15650 compliant — meets all UK and European fire damper performance standards
- E120 fire classification — tested to prevent fire spread for up to two hours
- Externally resettable — can be reset without removing the damper from the duct
- Galvanised and stainless steel options — for standard and corrosive environments
- Optional microswitch — for remote indication of open/closed status
- Tested installation variants — certified for dry walls, masonry walls, and concrete floors
For fire-rated installations requiring the highest level of certification and test data, BSB FD-C dampers are the benchmark choice for specifiers, consultants, and installers. Need advice on sizing or specification? Contact us at hello@efans.co.uk.
What is the BSB FD-C Series?
The BSB FD-C is a circular single blade fire damper designed for installation in round ductwork where it penetrates fire-resisting walls, floors, or partitions. It's externally resettable — meaning the blade can be returned to the open position without accessing the inside of the duct — and is available in both galvanised steel (standard) and stainless steel (for humid or corrosive environments).
What does E120 fire classification mean?
E120 is the highest fire resistance classification for fire dampers under EN 1366-2. It means the damper has been tested and proven to maintain fire compartmentation — preventing fire and hot gases from passing through — for a minimum of 120 minutes. All BSB FD-C tested installation methods achieve E120, making them suitable for 60-minute and 120-minute fire-rated compartments.
Are BSB fire dampers compliant with UK Building Regulations?
Yes. BSB fire dampers comply with BS EN 15650 and are tested to EN 1366-2, meeting the requirements of UK Building Regulations Approved Document B for passive fire protection in ventilation systems. Their test certificates and installation data are available to support specification and building control sign-off.
What is the microswitch option on BSB dampers?
The optional microswitch provides remote electrical indication of the damper's position — open or closed. This is used in buildings where fire damper status needs to be monitored centrally, such as via a building management system (BMS) or fire alarm panel. It's particularly useful in larger commercial buildings where physical inspection of every damper is impractical.
How do BSB fire dampers differ from intumescent fire blocks?
BSB fire dampers are mechanical devices with a spring-loaded blade that closes when a thermal fuse melts at approximately 72°C. Intumescent fire blocks are passive products that expand in response to heat, sealing the duct opening without moving parts. Mechanical dampers like the BSB FD-C are required where ductwork must remain open during normal operation and close only in a fire — the standard requirement in most commercial ventilation systems.
