Heat Recovery Controllers

Frequently asked questions

How is an MVHR unit controlled?

Most heat recovery units run continuously at a low trickle rate and step up to boost when needed. Control is by a wall boost/purge switch (hard-wired or wireless), a humidity or CO₂ sensor, or a wired zone control panel that sets speeds and schedules. Some units also accept a unit-specific digital controller or PCB. Match the control to your unit's make and model.

Boost switch or zone control panel: which do I need?

A boost switch is the simplest option, triggering the unit's boost speed from a bathroom or kitchen, ideal for a single dwelling. A zone control panel (such as the Vent-Axia Sentinel wired zone controller) gives full control of speeds, boost timers and scheduling, used where you want central adjustment or multiple zones.

Which controller fits my Vent-Axia Sentinel?

The Sentinel Kinetic range works with Vent-Axia's own boost/purge switches, the wired zone control panel (SENWZP) and wireless enable kits. Send us your exact Sentinel model and we'll confirm the compatible controls and sensors.

Do I need a humidity or CO₂ sensor?

A sensor automates boost so the system responds to real moisture or occupancy rather than a manual switch, which we recommend in bathrooms, kitchens and busy rooms. It's optional: many installs use manual boost switches only. Sensors must be compatible with the unit's control system.
