The BSB FD-R Series is a mechanical single-blade fire damper for rectangular ductwork passing through fire rated walls and floors, with built-in volume control. The damper, fusible link and reset are all accessed from outside the duct, so it can be drop tested and reset without opening the ductwork, which makes commissioning and annual testing much quicker in tight ceiling voids.
It is ES classified (reduced smoke leakage) to BS EN 1366-2, and can be installed from one side of the wall without fire rated infill material. Made to order by BSB in the UK.

What it is best used for
Smaller rectangular supply and extract ducts in offices, schools, healthcare, hotels and residential blocks where the duct passes through a fire compartment wall or floor. It is especially useful where access is limited, because testing and resetting are done from outside the duct.
FD-R, FD-C or curtain damper?
The FD-R is the rectangular version of our BSB FD-C circular damper: same single-blade, externally resettable design with volume control. For circular ducts choose FD-C, or the BSB FD Series curtain damper for circular sizes above 315mm. For rectangular ducts larger than 300 x 300mm, contact us for a curtain damper quote.
Installation notes
- Install to BSB's tested method for the wall or floor type using the supplied frame, so the fire rating is valid. It fixes from one side only with no infill needed.
- Leave a 10mm gap around the damper, at least 75mm to adjacent walls, floors and ceilings, and use break-away joints on the connecting ductwork.
- Fire dampers must be inspected and drop tested regularly (BS 9999) with records kept under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. BSB recommend intervals of no more than six months.
