What's the difference between a commercial and domestic extractor fan?

Commercial extractor fans are engineered for continuous or near-continuous operation, higher airflow volumes, and greater motor durability. They're typically rated for longer run times, higher ambient temperatures, and harsher environments — making them suitable for professional kitchens, workshops, warehouses, schools, and public buildings. What type of commercial fan do I need for a kitchen?

What size commercial extractor fan do I need?

Sizing depends on the room volume, required air changes per hour, and the type of activity taking place. As a rough guide: offices typically require 6–10 air changes per hour, commercial kitchens 20–30, workshops and light industrial spaces 10–15, and warehouses 6–10. Multiply your room volume (length × width × height in metres) by the required air changes to get the airflow rate in m³/h, then choose a fan that meets or exceeds that figure.
