Which commercial extractor fan do I need?

What's the difference between a commercial and domestic extractor fan?

Commercial extractor fans are engineered for continuous or near-continuous operation, higher airflow volumes and greater motor durability. They're rated for longer run times, higher ambient temperatures and harsher environments — suiting professional kitchens, workshops, warehouses, schools and public buildings. What's the difference between axial and inline commercial extractor fans?

Axial fans move air in a straight line and suit short duct runs, wall or ceiling mounting and high-volume airflow. Inline fans sit inside the ductwork and are better for longer runs, ceiling voids and quieter operation. Mixed-flow inline fans add higher pressure for more complex duct systems.

What type of commercial fan do I need for a kitchen?

What size commercial extractor fan do I need?

Sizing depends on the room volume, required air changes per hour and the activity taking place. As a rough guide: offices need 6–10 air changes per hour, commercial kitchens 20–30, workshops and light industrial 10–15, and warehouses 6–10. Multiply room volume (length × width × height in metres) by the required air changes to get the airflow in m³/h, then choose a fan that meets or exceeds it. Are commercial extractor fans suitable for industrial environments?

Yes. Industrial-rated extractors handle dust, heat, fumes, moisture and continuous operation in warehouses, workshops, manufacturing areas and plant rooms — built for higher duty and tougher conditions than domestic units.

Do commercial extractor fans need ducting?

Not always. Wall-mounted axial and plate fans can often exhaust directly outside. Inline, roof-mounted, twin fan and box units usually need ducting, especially in offices, plant rooms and ceiling voids where direct discharge isn't possible. Proper ducting improves performance, reduces noise and maintains efficient airflow.

Do you stock three-phase commercial fans?
