Summary

The Duco DucoBox Reno UK is a compact centralised MEV (mechanical extract ventilation) unit for houses and flats, delivering up to 325 m³/h (90 l/s) at 150 Pa. It runs continuously, drawing stale, humid air from the kitchen and wet rooms through four 125mm extract spigots plus a rear connection, and discharges outside through a single 125mm outlet.

A humidity sensor built into the fan scroll boosts extraction automatically, with an optional CO2 box sensor for more control. It draws just 47W at most, has a published SAP 2012 specific fan power from 0.16 W/l/s, is SAP Appendix Q listed and BRE approved, and weighs only 3.1 kg. Duco pitch it as their go-to unit for social housing and flats.

What it is best used for

Continuous whole house extract in social housing, student flats, apartments and family houses, drawing from the kitchen, bathroom, en-suite, WC and utility through one central unit. It replaces several intermittent room fans with one quiet box and one outside penetration, and at 381 x 366mm it fits a standard cupboard or ceiling void.

MEV extracts only and recovers no heat, so fresh air comes in through trickle vents or window grilles. Where airtightness and heating costs justify it, whole house MVHR is the better choice. See our whole house MVHR units.

Why choose this over alternatives

The Reno is the value end of Duco's range. Against the Elta MOXA MEV it moves more air (325 m³/h at 150 Pa against 230 m³/h at 100 Pa) with a similar four inlet layout plus a rear connection, and it is a straightforward alternative to the Greenwood CMEV.4e on new projects. Its low SAP 2012 specific fan power (0.16 to 0.27 W/l/s) helps the SAP calculation.

For housing providers, the copy function lets you set up identical units across a block quickly, and Duco offer an All-in-one Reno kit (0000-7100) with an RF user controller and three DucoVent Basic vents. For larger homes needing seven extract points or the quietest possible unit, ask us about the DucoBox Silent 2.0.

Installation notes

  • Mount on a solid wall or ceiling using vibration dampers or brackets with rubber inserts, and keep the lid closed tight so the box stays airtight.
  • Use 125mm duct for rooms extracting 30 m³/h or more and 100mm below that. Avoid bends tighter than 90°, keep air velocity under 3 m/s and total back pressure at or below 150 Pa.
  • Do not fit an extract valve directly on the unit; use a bend between them. Cap every unused spigot.
  • Run the outlet to outside in rigid duct, stepping from 125mm to 160mm, with as few bends as possible. Insulate it if the unit sits outside the insulated envelope.
  • Seal joints with tape, hose clips or cable ties, not screws. The UK model has a 3-pin plug on a 1.5 m lead, so provide a switched fused spur or socket nearby.
  • Set trickle, boost and purge rates at commissioning to meet Part F.

What is the DucoBox Reno?

A compact centralised MEV unit from Duco. One fan runs continuously and extracts from the kitchen and wet rooms through 125mm ducts, delivering up to 325 m³/h at 150 Pa, with automatic humidity boost built in.

How many rooms can the DucoBox Reno extract from?

It has four 125mm extract spigots plus a rear connection, so a kitchen and up to four wet rooms direct to the unit. Duco publish SFP figures for a kitchen plus 1 to 6 wet rooms. Fit a cap on any spigot you do not use.

What is the difference between the DucoBox Reno and the DucoBox Silent?

The Reno is smaller and lighter (381 x 366 x 204 mm, 3.1 kg) with 325 m³/h, five extract connections and a 47W maximum. The Silent moves 400 m³/h through seven spigots and is Duco's quietest unit. Choose the Reno for flats and typical houses, the Silent for larger homes.

Is the DucoBox Reno suitable for social housing?

Yes. It is SAP Appendix Q listed and BRE approved, has a copy function to set up identical units quickly across serial housing, and Duco offer an All-in-one Reno kit (0000-7100) with a user controller and three vents aimed at landlords tackling damp and mould.

What is the difference between MEV and MVHR?

MEV extracts stale air only and fresh air comes in through trickle vents or window grilles. MVHR extracts and supplies air and recovers heat. MEV costs less and needs no supply ductwork; MVHR suits very airtight homes where heat loss matters.

How is the DucoBox Reno set up for Part F?

Trickle, boost and purge rates are adjusted at commissioning to meet Part F, with optical LED feedback on the unit. It communicates over Duco RF, so wireless user controllers and room sensors can be added without extra wiring.
