Summary

The Elta MOXA MEV HX is a continuous running centralised MEV (mechanical extract ventilation) unit for whole house extraction, delivering up to 239 m³/h (66.4 l/s) at 100 Pa. One EC fan draws stale, humid air from up to four wet rooms at once through its four 125mm inlets and discharges outside through one 125mm outlet.
The HX replaces the original MOXA MEV. It has a built-in humidity sensor with an adaptive auto mode or fixed 60, 75 or 90% RH thresholds, three DIP-switch speeds, a switch live input with an optional 15 minute overrun, and a 35W EC motor. It is quoted at 14 dB(A) at 3m because it sits away from the room grilles, and carries Elta's 5 year parts warranty.
- Up to 239 m³/h at 100 Pa
- 35W EC motor
- Built-in adaptive humidity boost
What it is best used for
Whole house continuous extract in new build and refurbished houses and flats, drawing from kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites, toilets and utility rooms through one central fan in a heated cupboard, ceiling void or plant space. It replaces several intermittent fans with one quiet unit and one outside penetration, and suits Part F, Part L and Part O residential ventilation strategies.
MEV extracts only and recovers no heat. Where airtightness and heating costs justify it, whole house MVHR such as the Elta HAVA range is the better choice.
Why choose this over alternatives
Compared with fitting an extract fan in every wet room, the MOXA MEV HX gives one maintenance point, continuous low level extract with automatic humidity boost, and much lower noise in the rooms. Against heat recovery units such as the HAVA180H MVHR, it costs less and needs no supply ductwork, but recovers no heat.
Over the original MOXA, the HX adds a fixed humidity threshold option, an overrun timer mode for a momentary switch, a lighter polypropylene casing (5 kg) and a condensation drain, so it can also be floor mounted in an unheated space.
Installation notes
- Install indoors in a heated space, vertically or horizontally, on a flat surface; wall, ceiling, false ceiling and floor mounting are all allowed. In an unheated space Elta recommend floor mounting only, with the condensation drain connected.
- Anti-vibration mounts and integrated fixing points are built in; leave room to remove the access cover for maintenance and clean at least every 12 months.
- Connect the four 125mm inlets to adjustable extract valves in the wet rooms and the 125mm outlet to the outside.
- Set the three speeds on DIP switch A (factory default 260, 330 and 380 m³/h at 0 Pa) and the humidity mode on DIP switch B (auto, 60%, 75% or 90% RH).
- Boost via the switch live (LS) terminal from a light switch, remote switch or PIR sensor, set to medium or maximum speed, either on/off or as a 15 minute overrun timer. Isolate the mains before adjusting DIP switches; installation by an authorised installer.
You'll also need
- 125mm insulated flexible duct for the outlet run
- Adjustable extract air valves for each wet room

What is the Elta MOXA MEV HX?
A centralised mechanical extract ventilation unit that continuously extracts stale air from up to four wet rooms through one fan, delivering up to 239 m³/h at 100 Pa.
What is the difference between the MOXA MEV and the MOXA MEV HX?
The HX is Elta's replacement for the original MOXA. It adds fixed 60, 75 or 90% humidity thresholds alongside auto mode, a 15 minute overrun timer option, a condensation drain and a lighter 5 kg casing.
How is MEV different from MVHR?
MEV extracts stale air only. MVHR both extracts and supplies air and recovers heat. MEV is simpler and lower cost.
Does the MOXA MEV HX boost automatically?
Yes. Its built-in humidity sensor switches it to medium speed when humidity rises, in adaptive auto mode or at a fixed 60, 75 or 90% RH threshold.
Can the MOXA MEV HX go in a cold loft?
Elta say it is for a heated space. In an unheated space they recommend floor mounting only, with the condensation drain connected.
How do I boost the MOXA MEV HX?
Wire a light switch, remote switch or PIR sensor to the switch live input. It can boost to medium or maximum speed, either while the switch is on or for a 15 minute overrun.
