Ventilation & MVHR Replacement Filters

Frequently asked questions

Which filter fits my MVHR unit?

Match the filter to the model on the unit's rating plate. Systemair SAVE units are listed by range and size, for example VTR 300, VSR 500 or VTC 300, and some have a standard kit plus optional finer grade kits. Older Systemair and Villavent units use the VR (VR 200 to VR 700) and VX (VX 400 to VX 700) filter sets. Systemair took over Villavent, so Villavent and Systemair branded filters for the same unit are interchangeable. If the rating plate is unreadable, use our filter finder or send us a photo of the unit and the old filter.

How often should I replace my MVHR filter?

Most manufacturers recommend changing MVHR filters every 6 to 12 months, and the supply side filter often needs changing sooner than the extract side. Homes near main roads, farmland, building sites or in high pollen areas may need a change every 4 to 6 months. Most modern units have a filter timer or warning light, so change the filters when it comes on.

Which filter fits the Vent-Axia Pozidry Compact PIV?

The Vent-Axia Pozidry Compact PIV (479188) uses a G4 filter, our part 479860. It sits in the unit's air intake to keep dust and insects out of the fan and the house, and should be changed every 12 months or when the filter warning light comes on.

What do the filter grades G4, M5, F7 and ePM1 mean?

The grade tells you how fine a particle the filter catches. G4 (ISO Coarse under EN ISO 16890) is a standard filter for dust, lint and insects and is used on PIV units and the extract side of most MVHR. M5 (ePM10) is a step finer. F7 (ePM1 50 to 80%) catches pollen, fine dust and most bacteria and is used on the supply side where indoor air quality matters. Our replacement filters match the grade of the original.

Genuine or compatible filters?

Products labelled Genuine Part are original Systemair or Villavent filters. Compatible filters are made to the same size and grade as the original and cost less. Both fit the same units and both ship next day. Choose genuine if you need factory parts for a warranty, or compatible if you want the same performance for less.

Can I wash or vacuum the filter instead?

No. MVHR and PIV filters are disposable. Vacuuming flattens the pleats and reduces the filter area, and washing destroys the charge on the fibres that catches fine particles. Always replace them.

What happens if I don't change the filters?

A blocked filter makes the fan work harder, so energy use and noise go up while airflow and heat recovery go down. In the worst case dust is pulled through into the heat exchanger, which is far more expensive to put right than a set of filters.

Can I buy supply or extract filters on their own?

Yes, for some units. We stock single supply and extract filters for the VSR 300 and VX 500/700, and a supply filter for the VX 400, so you only replace the side that needs it.

Do you stock filters for other brands?

Our range covers the Systemair, Villavent and Vent-Axia units listed here. For another brand, email hello@efans.co.uk with the unit model and a photo of the old filter and we will source it or point you to the right supplier.
