Summary

The Elta MORI WMF100-S is a weatherproof sub floor supply fan that fixes to the outside wall over a 100mm core and runs continuously to push fresh outdoor air into the void under suspended floors. It moves 43 m³/h (12 l/s) at its trickle setting and up to 61 m³/h (17 l/s) on boost.

The single phase EC brushless motor has integral thermal protection and ball bearings, and draws only 1.5 W to 7 W. The removable cowl and the fixed wall baseplate are galvanised steel, it works from -20°C to +40°C, and Elta estimate £8.76 a year to run at trickle speed (20p per kWh). Made in the UK with a 5 year Elta warranty.

What it is best used for

Suspended timber floors with poor natural ventilation, where blocked or too few airbricks have led to damp, condensation, timber rot or musty smells, and sub floor voids that need radon control. Because it sits outside the building it can be fitted and maintained without lifting floorboards.

It is for clean air only and not a substitute for a designed radon sump system where survey results call for one. Elta stress their layouts are conceptual, so design responsibility for the sub floor scheme stays with the installer or designer.

Why choose this over alternatives

Fans that live inside the sub floor void are awkward to reach and service. The MORI sits on the outside wall, with the fan assembly easy to disconnect and withdraw for cleaning, and the trickle and boost speeds are set on the PCB to suit the void.

Elta recommend pairing it with the Elta MORI WMF100-E extract fan as the best option: one on each side or diagonally opposite corners gives a controlled airflow path across the whole void regardless of wind.

Installation notes

  • Core a 100mm (4 inch) hole through the wall into the sub floor void. The hole centre must be at least 104mm above ground level.
  • Fix the unit to the wall through the 4 corner holes so the foam strip seals against the wall. Silicone can be added for extra protection.
  • Power can enter from either side or the rear. Fit an omnipolar isolator with at least 3mm contact separation and protect the circuit with an RCD.
  • Set the trickle speed on the "Low" potentiometer and the boost speed on the "Boost" potentiometer (factory set to full). Boost runs when an external switch closes.
  • Fit it on one side or a corner, keep free exhaust airbricks on the opposite and adjacent sides, and provide transfer openings through any sleeper walls.

What is the MORI WMF100-S for?

Ventilating the void under a suspended floor by supplying fresh air into it continuously, to control humidity, timber rot and radon.

Does it mount inside or outside?

Outside. It is weatherproof and fixes to the external wall over a 100mm core, so it can be reached for maintenance without going under the floor.

How high above ground does it need to be?

The centre of the 100mm hole must be at least 104mm above ground level.

How much does it cost to run?

Elta quote £8.76 a year at trickle speed, £2.63 at minimum and £12.26 if run at boost all year, based on 20p per kWh.

Do I need both the extract and supply models?

Not always, but Elta describe supply and extract together as the best option because it drives air across the whole void independent of wind. Mount them on opposite sides or diagonally opposite corners.

How often does it need cleaning?

Elta say the cowl and fan should be checked and cleaned at intervals not exceeding 6 months, with the power isolated.
