Summary
See more specification See less specification
The Elta 149-EC-CO2TH3M is a room sensor that measures CO2, temperature and relative humidity and gives a 0-10V output for each, so EC fans or speed controllers can ramp ventilation to real occupancy. This is the Modbus version, with RS-485 Modbus RTU for connection to a BMS.
It runs on 24V AC/DC or 230V 50/60Hz, the outputs are configurable 0-10V or 2-10V, a volt free relay can raise a CO2 alarm, and a traffic light LED shows the CO2 level to occupants.
- CO2, temperature and RH sensor
- 3 x 0-10V outputs
- RS-485 Modbus RTU
What it is best used for
Demand controlled ventilation in classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, lecture theatres, gyms and changing rooms, where occupancy varies through the day and running fans flat out wastes energy. Elta state it complies with Part F guidance for CO2 monitoring, and the traffic light LED gives occupants a visible prompt.
It is a sensor, not a controller: it needs an EC fan with a 0-10V input or a controller that accepts 0-10V. It cannot drive an AC fan on its own. Where no BMS is involved, a non-Modbus sensor may be enough; ask us.
Why choose this over alternatives
Using CO2 rather than a timer or PIR means the fan speed follows how many people are actually in the room. Pair it with the 149-EC-TB trickle and boost controller, whose 0-10V auxiliary input takes the sensor signal and which adds BMS enable and a fan fail relay, or wire it straight to the 0-10V input of an EC fan such as the SSDL250 or Jetflow SJMF 200.
The Modbus link lets the BMS read CO2, temperature and humidity directly for logging and Part F reporting, and the separate humidity output can drive boost in wet areas.
Installation notes
- Mount at breathing height in the occupied space, away from windows, doors and supply diffusers.
- Choose 24V AC/DC or 230V supply and wire the 0-10V output to the fan or controller input, setting 0-10V or 2-10V to suit.
- Connect the RS-485 Modbus to the BMS and the volt free relay to any CO2 alarm.
- Wiring by a qualified electrician with the supply isolated.

What does the Elta 149-EC-CO2TH3M do?
It measures CO2, temperature and humidity and outputs 0-10V signals so EC fans or controllers can vary ventilation to suit occupancy.
Does the 149-EC-CO2TH3M connect to a BMS?
Yes. This M version has RS-485 Modbus RTU.
Does it help with Part F?
Elta state it complies with Part F guidance for CO2 monitoring.
Can it control an AC fan directly?
No. Its outputs are 0-10V signals, so it needs an EC fan with a 0-10V input or a controller that accepts one, such as the Elta 149-EC-TB.
What supply does the sensor need?
24V AC/DC or 230V 50/60Hz.
Where should the sensor be mounted?
At breathing height in the occupied room, away from windows, doors and supply air diffusers.
