Summary
See more specification See less specification
The Elta 149-EC-TB is a BMS ready trickle and boost controller for EC fans. It sends a 0-10V speed signal to the fan, with the run (trickle) speed set on a control knob and an adjustable boost speed triggered by volt free contacts, and it monitors the fan by tacho or fault relay.
It has a 0-10V auxiliary input for a sensor or BMS, volt free remote enable, a fan fail relay with volt free contacts rated 8A 230VAC, LEDs for boost activation and fan fail, and an IP56 surface mounted enclosure. It runs on 230VAC, suits ambient temperatures up to 40°C and carries a 1 year Elta guarantee.
- 0-10V EC controller
- Trickle and boost
- BMS enable and fan fail relay
What it is best used for
Commercial EC fan installations that need trickle and boost under building control: washrooms and toilet cores boosted by PIR, meeting rooms boosted by a CO2 sensor, kitchens and plant rooms where the BMS needs a fan fail signal. Pair it with a 0-10V sensor such as the Elta 149-EC-CO2TH3M for demand controlled ventilation.
It is for EC fans only, not for AC motors on voltage control. For a simple wall knob or a local trickle and boost switch with no BMS connection, the 149-POT-10-MI or 149-POT-10-TB do the job for less.
Why choose this over alternatives
Unlike the 149-POT-10-MI and 149-POT-10-TB, the EC-TB proves the fan is actually running (by tacho or the fan's fault relay) and gives the BMS a volt free fail signal, which matters on critical extract such as toilet cores and plant rooms.
Its 0-10V auxiliary input lets a sensor such as the 149-EC-CO2TH3M drive the fan speed, while the PIR or BMS boost and remote enable inputs take volt free contacts.
Installation notes
- Surface mount only, in a dry sheltered position away from heat sources; do not recess mount. Maximum ambient 40°C.
- Connect to a suitably rated fused spur, and check the fan supplied can safely be controlled by the controller.
- Use wiring diagram 152-728: 0-10V output to the fan, tacho or fault contact back from the fan, and set the fault mode jumper to tacho or relay to match.
- Set the trickle speed on the board knob and the boost speed on its preset during commissioning.
- Installation by a qualified and competent electrician in line with current wiring regulations.

What does the Elta 149-EC-TB do?
It runs an EC fan at a set trickle speed, boosts it to an adjustable speed from volt free contacts, monitors the fan and signals a failure through a volt free relay.
Can the 149-EC-TB connect to a BMS?
Yes. It has volt free remote enable and boost inputs, a 0-10V auxiliary input and a volt free fan fail relay.
How does it detect a fan failure?
By the fan's tacho signal or the fan's own fault relay, selected with a jumper on the board.
Can a CO2 or humidity sensor control the fan speed?
Yes, through the 0-10V auxiliary input, for example from the Elta 149-EC-CO2TH3M room sensor.
What is the IP rating of the 149-EC-TB?
IP56. It must still be surface mounted in a dry sheltered position, with ambient temperature up to 40°C.
Does the 149-EC-TB work with AC fans?
No. It is for EC fans with a 0-10V speed input.
