Summary
See more specification See less specification
The Elta 149-POT-10-MI is a potentiometer speed controller for EC fans. It sets the fan's 0-10V speed signal with a control knob, and the minimum speed is set on an internal preset so the fan cannot be turned down below a safe ventilation rate.
Elta list it as the standard controller for their EC fan ranges, and it can also be used with variable speed drives (inverters). It is a low voltage control device: the fan keeps its own mains supply and the controller only provides the speed signal.
- 0-10V EC controller
- Potentiometer speed control
- Internal minimum speed preset
What it is best used for
Manual speed setting of EC fans in offices, classrooms, toilets, kitchens and plant rooms, where an installer or facilities team wants to set and occasionally adjust the duty. Elta list it on the accessory tables for their EC box, inline, mixed flow, long cased and plate fans, and it suits inverter driven AC fans too.
It is not a mains voltage controller, so it will not slow an ordinary AC fan; use an electronic or transformer controller for those. If the fan needs to step up to a boost speed on a switch, the trickle and boost version is the better fit.
Why choose this over alternatives
Elta specify this controller across their EC ranges on eFans, including the SSDL and STDL box fans, Jetflow SJMF inline fans, SLC EC long cased fans, SEL EC mixed flow fans and the SPA710/6-1EC. Because the fan's EC motor does the speed regulation, there is no hum and no heat in the controller.
For a manual trickle and boost switch, use the 149-POT-10-TB. For BMS enable, fan fail relay and 0-10V sensor input, step up to the 149-EC-TB trickle and boost controller.
Installation notes
- Wire the controller to the fan's control terminals (typically 10V, 0-10V input and GND) using the fan's Elta wiring diagram, keeping control cable separate from mains cable.
- Set the internal minimum speed preset during commissioning so the fan always delivers the design minimum airflow.
- Isolate the fan's mains supply before connecting the control wiring. Installation by a qualified electrician.

What fans does the Elta 149-POT-10-MI work with?
EC fans with a 0-10V speed input and variable speed drives (inverters). Elta list it for their SSDL, STDL, SJMF, SLC EC, SEL EC and SPA EC fans.
What does the MI suffix mean?
MI means the minimum speed is adjustable by an internal preset.
Can the 149-POT-10-MI control an AC fan?
Not directly. It provides a speed signal rather than switching mains voltage, so ordinary AC fans need an electronic or transformer speed controller.
What is the difference between the 149-POT-10-MI and the 149-POT-10-TB?
The TB version adds a trickle and boost switch. The MI version has a single speed knob with an internal minimum speed preset.
Does the 149-POT-10-MI make the fan hum?
No. Speed is controlled by the EC motor's own electronics, so there is none of the hum some voltage controllers cause.
How is the 149-POT-10-MI wired?
To the fan's 0-10V control terminals as shown on the fan's Elta wiring diagram. The fan keeps its own mains supply.
