How do I choose the right S&P speed controller?

Match the controller to the fan's motor type and full-load current. AC induction-motor fans use an electronic (triac) controller such as the REB series, or a five-step auto-transformer controller (RMB/REV series); pick one rated at or above the fan's running current in amps. EC and 0–10V fans use the REB-CVF 0–10V controller. Three-phase fans use a VFD inverter or the MSD motor starter. Send us the fan model and we'll confirm the correct match.

Electronic or auto-transformer controller — what's the difference?

Electronic (triac) controllers such as the REB range vary voltage smoothly and are compact and low cost — ideal for most small-to-medium single fans. Auto-transformer controllers (RMB and REV series) step the voltage in fixed stages, run cooler and quieter, avoid low-speed motor hum and suit larger fans or continuous low-speed running. AC motors marked "transformer controllable only" must use an auto-transformer type.

What is a VFD / digital inverter for?

Variable-frequency drives (the VFD-M and VFD-T range) control three-phase fan motors by varying supply frequency, giving smooth, efficient speed control across the full range with soft start. They're specified on three-phase axial and centrifugal fans in commercial and industrial installs, and can take a 0–10V or BMS signal.

Can I use an S&P controller on another brand of fan?

Yes — a speed controller works with any compatible AC fan motor within its voltage and current rating, whatever the brand, provided the fan is speed-controllable and (for triac types) not marked transformer-only. EC/0–10V fans need a 0–10V controller. If in doubt, send us the fan spec.
