A three phase EC external rotor motor (380-480V 50/60Hz) drives a backward curved impeller balanced to ISO1940-1, at up to 1555 rpm with an integrated commissioning control for setting speed. The 1.2mm galvanised steel casing is acoustically lined and suitable for external mounting, the IP44 motor has sealed for life bearings and runs in air from -20°C to +60°C, and Elta backs it with a 12 month warranty.

What it is best used for
The most powerful SSDL, for warehousing, factories, industrial units and large commercial kitchens with a three phase supply and a high resistance 500mm duct system. It moves 6228 m³/h at 100 Pa and still 4320 m³/h at 500 Pa, close to double the single phase 500 at that pressure.
It needs a 380 to 480V three phase supply; on a single phase site use the SSDL500-1EC instead. It is not suitable for corrosive or explosive atmospheres, and the airstream must stay within -20°C to +60°C.
Why choose this over alternatives
This is the 500mm SSDL with rectangular spigots and terminal box. Pick this version when the fan connects to rectangular ductwork and you also want a pre-fitted terminal box for a quick, tidy electrical connection. The fan, motor and performance are identical across the four versions, so the choice is only about duct shape and wiring. The same size is also available as Elta SSDL500-3EC (circular spigots), Elta SSDL500-3EC-T (circular spigots with terminal box) and Elta SSDL500-3EC-R (rectangular spigots).
Against the single phase Elta SSDL500-1EC-RT it gives more air everywhere on the curve and the gap widens with pressure: 6228 against 5184 m³/h at 100 Pa, but 4320 against 2192 m³/h at 500 Pa. Peak current is 2.38 A at 400V, against 5.07 A for the single phase version.
Installation notes
- Mount it at any angle, indoors or outside, on drop rods or Elta's SEL anti-vibration mounts (upright or inverted), make sure it is adequately supported, and leave access for maintenance.
- The inlet and outlet are rectangular spigots for rectangular ductwork. Check the spigot sizes on Elta's dimensional drawing before fabricating the duct connections.
- A terminal box is pre-fitted to one side; tell us which side when ordering. Elta's drawing shows it adds 74mm to dimension B, so allow for that in tight voids.
- Speed is set on the built-in commissioning potentiometer. To use an external potentiometer or a 0-10V BMS signal, remove the jumper link and connect to ST1; the commissioning setting then caps the maximum speed.
- Disconnect the fan before any insulation resistance testing. Elta warn this can damage the EC electronics and is not covered by warranty.

What is the difference between the SSDL500-3EC, -R, -T and -RT?
The -RT has rectangular spigots plus a pre-fitted terminal box. The plain SSDL500-3EC has circular spigots and no terminal box, -T is circular with a terminal box and -R is rectangular without one. Performance is the same on all four.
How much air does the SSDL500-3EC-RT move?
Up to 6552 m³/h in free air at full speed, 6228 m³/h at 100 Pa, 5868 m³/h at 200 Pa and 4320 m³/h at 500 Pa.
How do I control the speed?
The built-in commissioning potentiometer sets a single speed or a maximum speed. For user control, Elta list the 149-POT-10-MI EC controller, or you can feed a 0-10V signal from a BMS after removing the jumper link.
Can it be mounted outside or on its side?
Yes. The SSDL is suitable for external mounting and can be mounted at any angle. The motor is IP44 and the fan is rated for air from -20°C to +60°C, up to 90% relative humidity.
How noisy is it?
At full speed Elta quote 58 dB(A) at the inlet, 61 dB(A) at the outlet and 49 dB(A) breakout at 3m. The casing is acoustically lined, and 068-0500-JF spigot silencers from 300 to 1200mm long are available to order.
What power supply does it need?
A three phase 380 to 480V 50/60Hz supply. Peak current is 2.38 A at 400V, and it uses Elta wiring diagram 152-713.
