The Elta Qube SQU50/315-EC-1 is a centrifugal box fan with a 315mm backward curved impeller in a 500mm cube casing, for supply or extract air up to +50°C. It moves up to 2246 m³/h at free air on full (10V) speed and 1346 m³/h at 400 Pa, the highest pressure in Elta's performance table for this model.
The single phase IE6 EC motor (220-277V 50/60Hz) is IP55, has a built in variable speed drive with protection against overload, over temperature and locked rotor, and takes a 2-10V, 4-20mA, PWM or potentiometer speed signal. The impeller is EN-AW 5754 aluminium, non-overloading and balanced to G6.3, inside an extruded aluminium frame with 25mm double skinned, mineral wool filled panels that can be moved to give a 90° or straight through airflow. Elta give a 24 month warranty.

What it is best used for
General supply or extract on a ducted system: a group of classrooms, shower and changing rooms, a small shop or a workshop. Elta list kitchens, schools, colleges, shops, sports halls, factories, industrial units and warehousing among typical uses. It moves 2246 m³/h free air and about 1930 m³/h against 200 Pa; at that 200 Pa figure it gives roughly 10 air changes an hour in a space of about 190 m³.
It is the wrong fan for hot extract: the Qube SQU is for an airstream up to +50°C, and Elta state it is not suitable for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. For hot or grease laden kitchen canopy extract, choose a Qube SQUHT high temperature box fan, which keeps the motor out of the air stream and is rated to +120°C in the duct.
Why choose this over alternatives
An EC Qube needs no separate inverter: the drive is built into the motor, so speed is set from a simple potentiometer or a 2-10V BMS signal, and turning it down saves energy. At 7.5V this model gives 1660 m³/h free air and at 5V 1008 m³/h, so one fan can be commissioned to the exact duty. The Elta SQU50/350-4-3 is the AC version in the same box size, which runs at fixed speed or from a separate inverter.
For more, the Elta SQU50/350-EC-1 gives 3586 m³/h. For hot or greasy air up to +120°C, the Elta SQUHT50/315-EC-1 is the high temperature version with the same box and impeller size.
Installation notes
- The fan can be mounted at any angle. It arrives set up for 90° airflow; move the panels to make it straight through if your duct runs in line. Make sure it is adequately supported, as it weighs 35 kg.
- Leave access to the panels: they are fixed with multi thread U nuts and lift off for cleaning and maintenance. Elta recommend an inspection at least every 12 months.
- Wire to Elta diagram 152-733 with a means of isolation. For external speed control from the 149-POT-10-MI or a BMS, remove the jumper on the control board. Elta give maximum control cable lengths of 30m for a voltage signal and 10m for PWM.
- Disconnect the fan before any insulation resistance testing, as the test can damage the EC electronics and that is not covered by warranty. The motor has an auto reset thermal contact, so isolate the supply before working on it because it can restart once cool.
- Elta rate the Qube for ambient temperatures of -20°C to +50°C and up to 95% relative humidity. Site the discharge so it cannot pull flue gases back from any open flued appliance.
You'll also need
- Elta EC Electronic Controller 149-POT-10-MI for manual speed control (Elta's listed controller for this fan).
- Elta electric heater battery 018-RH70/40-21-3TP, if you need to temper supply air. Available to order, ask us.

What air temperature is the Elta SQU50/315-EC-1 rated for?
Elta rate it for an airstream up to +50°C. For hotter or grease laden air, use the Qube SQUHT high temperature range, rated to +120°C in the duct.
How much air does the SQU50/315-EC-1 move?
Up to 2246 m³/h (0.624 m³/s) at free air on 10V, 2102 m³/h at 100 Pa, 1930 m³/h at 200 Pa and 1346 m³/h at 400 Pa.
What size are the inlet and outlet?
The 500mm cube casing has a 430mm inlet and a 440mm outlet, per Elta's dimension table. The 315mm in the model code is the impeller diameter, not a duct size, so allow for a transition to your ductwork.
How do I control the speed?
The EC motor has a built in drive. Use the Elta 149-POT-10-MI controller, or a 2-10V, 4-20mA or PWM signal from a BMS, after removing the jumper on the control board.
Can it be straight through or 90°?
Both. It is supplied set for 90° airflow, and the panels can be moved on site for straight through airflow. The fan can be mounted at any angle.
How noisy is the SQU50/315-EC-1?
Elta quote 54 dB(A) at the inlet, 56 dB(A) at the outlet and 47 dB(A) breakout from the case, at 3m in free field on full speed. Turning the speed down reduces this.
