Summary

The Elta SPA500/4-1EC is a 500mm Raptor plate mounted axial fan with a single phase EC motor, moving up to 8356 m³/h at full speed and working against static pressures up to 150 Pa. Speed is fully variable, so the fan can be set to match the room.
The EC external rotor motor has an integrated variable speed drive, runs on 220-277V single phase 50/60Hz and reaches 1432 rpm at 10V, drawing 747 W and 3.46 A. Speed is set by a 0-10V signal or the 149-POT-10-MI potentiometer. The Ziehl-Abegg FE2owlet aerofoil impeller has serrated trailing edges and winglets, the motor is weatherproofed to IP54 with an IP55 terminal box, it handles air up to +70°C, and Elta give a 12 month warranty.

- Up to 8356 m³/h
- Speed Controllable
What it is best used for
Single phase sites that need variable or BMS controlled through-wall ventilation in factory units, workshops, warehouses, sports halls and large commercial kitchens where air is moved straight through a wall or bulkhead. At 8356 m³/h it gives about 6 air changes an hour in a space of roughly 1404 m³, for example 27m x 13m with a 4m ceiling. Turned down to 8V it still moves 6660 m³/h at 51 dB(A).
The datasheet shows airflow up to 150 Pa, enough for a louvre shutter, cowl or short duct, but for long ducted runs choose a cased axial or inline mixed flow fan. It is not suitable for corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
Why choose this over alternatives
Against the AC Elta SPA500/4-1AC (8514 m³/h, up to 150 Pa, 750 W, 51 dB(A)), this EC version gives stepless 0-10V control without a separate transformer or electronic controller. On a three phase site the Elta SPA500/4-3EC gives 9090 m³/h, up to 200 Pa, 948 W, 58 dB(A). The Compact Elta SCP500-1EC is the other single phase EC option at this size (7988 m³/h, up to 200 Pa, 639 W, 63 dB(A)). At lower speeds EC power falls sharply, which is where it saves running cost over a fixed speed AC fan.
Installation notes
- Mount the 655 x 655mm fan plate securely at any angle using the four 11mm holes on 615mm centres, and leave access for future maintenance.
- Supply is 220-277V single phase 50/60Hz. Wire to Elta diagram 152-MOEA03K1 through the IP55 terminal box. The motor has a 10V output and a 0-10V input, so speed is set by the 149-POT-10-MI potentiometer or a 0-10V signal from a BMS.
- Disconnect the EC fan before any insulation resistance testing on the circuit. Elta warn that testing with it connected can damage the electronics and is not covered by warranty.
- The EC motor has internal electronic overload protection and may restart on its own after a fault clears, so isolate the supply before maintenance.
- At first start check rotation and airflow direction. Inspect and clean blades and guards at least every 12 months.
You'll also need
- Elta EC electronic controller 149-POT-10-MI for manual speed control.
- Elta 064-0500-C louvre shutter available to order, ask us
- Elta SWC45/50 wall cowl available to order, ask us

How much air does the Elta SPA500/4-1EC move?
Up to 8356 m³/h at 10V in free air, and 7610 m³/h at 50 Pa, 6908 m³/h at 100 Pa and 6188 m³/h at 150 Pa.
How is the speed controlled?
The EC motor has a built in drive. Use the Elta 149-POT-10-MI potentiometer, which we stock, or a 0-10V signal from a BMS or other controller.
How quiet is it at reduced speed?
56 dB(A) at 3m at 10V, 51 dB(A) at 8V and 40 dB(A) at 5V.
What size hole and plate does it need?
It fits a 500mm opening. The square plate is 655 x 655mm with four 11mm fixing holes on 615mm centres.
What supply does it need?
220-277V single phase 50/60Hz. A normal 230V supply is fine.
Is there anything to watch for when testing the circuit?
Yes. Disconnect the fan before insulation resistance testing, as Elta warn that testing can damage the EC electronics.
