Summary

The Elta SPA450/6-1AC is a 450mm Raptor plate mounted axial fan with a slow running 6 pole motor, moving up to 4831 m³/h against static pressures up to 50 Pa. It is the quiet 450mm Raptor, at just 41 dB(A) at 3m.

It runs on a single phase 220-240V AC external rotor motor at 926 rpm, insulated to Class F with integral thermal overload protection, drawing only 189 W and 0.90 A. The Ziehl-Abegg FE2owlet aerofoil impeller has serrated trailing edges and winglets, the motor is weatherproofed to IP54 with an IP55 terminal box, and Elta give a 12 month warranty.

What it is best used for

Noise sensitive through-wall ventilation on a single phase supply: shops, school classrooms and halls, changing rooms, squash courts and offices next to workshops. At 4831 m³/h it gives about 6 air changes an hour in an 800 m³ space, for example 20m x 10m with a 4m ceiling.

Its pressure runs out at 50 Pa, so it is not the fan for ducting or heavy louvres. Where there is more resistance, choose the 4 pole SPA450/4-1AC. It is not suitable for corrosive or explosive atmospheres.

Why choose this over alternatives

Against the 4 pole Elta SPA450/4-1AC, this 6 pole version gives up air volume (4831 against 7132 m³/h) but runs at 41 dB(A) instead of 49 dB(A) and draws 189 W instead of 545 W, so running costs are much lower. If you want quiet running with more air, the Elta SPA500/6-1AC moves 6340 m³/h at 44 dB(A).

Installation notes

  • Mount the fan plate securely at any angle, in a wall, panel or bulkhead, using the four corner fixing holes. Make sure the structure can carry the fan and leave access for future maintenance.
  • The motor is prewired to an IP55 terminal box on a flying lead, so the box can be placed to suit the incoming supply. Wire to Elta diagram 152-104B and make all earth connections.
  • Speed can be controlled with the Elta 149-EL31TK electronic controller or the 149-TC14 five step transformer controller. Wire the thermal contacts into the controller circuit as shown on the diagram.
  • Fit a local means of isolation. The AC motor has an auto-reset thermal cut-out, so isolate the supply before any work because the fan can restart on its own once it cools.
  • At first start check impeller rotation and airflow direction, and that the running current does not exceed the rating plate. Inspect and clean blades and guards at least every 12 months.

How much air does the Elta SPA450/6-1AC move?

Up to 4831 m³/h in free air, 4237 m³/h at 25 Pa and 3485 m³/h at 50 Pa.

Is the SPA450/6-1AC quieter than the SPA450/4-1AC?

Yes. It runs at 926 rpm and 41 dB(A) at 3m, against 1323 rpm and 49 dB(A) for the 4 pole model, but moves less air.

Which speed controller suits it?

Elta list the 149-EL31TK electronic controller and the 149-TC14 transformer controller. We stock both.

What size plate does it need?

A 575 x 575mm square plate with four 10mm holes on 535mm centres, for a 450mm opening.

Can it be used with ductwork?

Only very short runs. It is designed for low resistance and its airflow drops off by 50 Pa, so use an inline or cased fan for ducted systems.

Can it run on a normal 230V supply?

Yes. It is a single phase 220-240V 50Hz fan.
