Summary

The Elta SPA400/46-3AC is a 400mm Raptor plate mounted axial fan with a two speed three phase motor, moving up to 3856 m³/h on high speed and working against static pressures up to 100 Pa. Switched to low speed it moves 3370 m³/h more quietly.

The 380-415V AC external rotor motor runs at 1372 rpm in delta and 1105 rpm in star, insulated to Class F with integral thermal overload protection, drawing 227 W and 0.46 A on high speed. It uses the Ziehl-Abegg FE2owlet aerofoil impeller with serrated trailing edges and winglets, is weatherproofed to IP54 with an IP55 terminal box, and carries a 12 month Elta warranty.

What it is best used for

General extract and supply in buildings with a three phase supply where two fixed speeds are useful: day and night rates in shops and retail units, plant rooms, small factory bays, school kitchens and stores. At 3856 m³/h it gives roughly 6 air changes an hour in a 640 m³ space, for example a 16m x 10m unit with a 4m ceiling.

It is a low pressure fan, so it suits walls and panels with a grille or shutter rather than ducted systems. It is not suitable for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. If the site only has a single phase supply, choose a single phase model instead.

Why choose this over alternatives

The single phase Elta SPA400/4-1AC moves a similar 3935 m³/h, but the SPA400/46-3AC gives you a built in second speed through star/delta switching with no controller, and runs on a three phase supply at just 0.46 A per phase. For more air from the same family, step up to the Elta SPA450/46-3AC, which moves 7193 m³/h on high speed from a 575mm plate.

Installation notes

  • Mount the fan plate securely at any angle, in a wall, panel or bulkhead, using the four corner fixing holes, and leave access for future maintenance.
  • Wire to Elta diagram 152-108. Delta connection gives high speed, star gives low speed, and a star/delta switch can be fitted to select between them. Swap any two supply phases to reverse rotation.
  • For variable speed, Elta pair this fan with the 149-TC33 three phase transformer controller wired through its own terminal box.
  • The thermal contacts (TB TB) must be wired into the starter or controller circuit so the motor is protected. Fit a local means of isolation.
  • At first start check rotation, airflow direction and that the running current does not exceed the rating plate. Inspect and clean blades and guards at least every 12 months.

How do the two speeds on the SPA400/46-3AC work?

The motor is wound for star/delta. Wired in delta it runs at 1372 rpm and moves 3856 m³/h; wired in star it runs at 1105 rpm and moves 3370 m³/h. A star/delta switch lets you change between them.

How much air does it move against pressure?

On high speed it moves 3622 m³/h at 25 Pa, 3355 m³/h at 50 Pa and 2603 m³/h at 100 Pa.

Can I control it with a variable speed controller?

Yes. Elta pair it with the 149-TC33 three phase transformer controller, which we can order in.

What size mounting plate does it have?

540 x 540mm, with four 10mm fixing holes on 490mm centres, for a 400mm opening.

Can it run on a single phase supply?

No. It needs a 380-415V three phase supply. For single phase, look at the SPA400/4-1AC or SPA400/4-1EC.

How loud is it?

48 dB(A) at 3m on high speed and 45 dB(A) on low speed.
