Summary

The Elta SLCX355/4-3AC is a 355mm ATEX rated long cased axial fan from the Elta Revolution SLCX range, built for duct mounting in hazardous areas. It moves up to 3096 m³/h at free air and still delivers 2333 m³/h at 100 Pa, driven by a 0.37 kW 4 pole three phase motor running at 1360 rpm.

Elta mark the SLCX to Ex h IIB+H2 T4 Gb, classified for constructional safety under the 2014/34/EU directive. The casing is heavy gauge sheet steel, roll formed, welded and dip galvanised after fabrication, and the adjustable pitch aerofoil impeller has carbon filled anti-static blades on a die cast aluminium hub. It is fixed speed, direct on line, and Elta give a 12 month warranty.

What it is best used for

Low volume extract from small classified spaces on short duct runs: a solvent or flammable liquids store, a small forklift or standby battery charging room, a laboratory chemical store or a small pumping station dry well. At 3096 m³/h free air it suits rooms where only a modest air change rate is needed.

It runs out of pressure at 100 Pa, so it is the wrong fan for long ductwork, filters or scrubbers. For more resistance step up to the Elta SLCX400/4-3AC (150 Pa) or the 2 pole Elta SLCX400/2-3AC (400 Pa). It is not suitable for Zone 0, and the marking is for gas atmospheres only, so ask us before specifying it for a combustible dust zone. Zone classification is the responsibility of the installer or site duty holder: check the Ex h IIB+H2 T4 Gb marking against your hazardous area classification before ordering.

Why choose this over alternatives

Choose the SLCX only where the area is classified as hazardous. Its Ex h IIB+H2 T4 Gb marking, anti-static impeller blades and ATEX build are what you are paying for; the standard Elta SLC355 three phase is the non-ATEX version of a similar size for ordinary ventilation and costs considerably less, but must never be used in a zoned area.

It is the smallest and lightest fan in the SLCX range at 29 kg, with the lowest power draw (0.37 kW) and the quietest output at 50 dB(A) at 3m.

Installation notes

  • Electrical installation must comply with BS7671 and EN60079-0 and be carried out by competent persons. Provide a means of electrical isolation in the fixed wiring and wire to diagram 152-612 through the M20 cable entry, with the M6 earth stud bonded.
  • The fan can be mounted at any angle. Seal all flanges with an oil and diesel resistant silicone sealant, and fix to the 425mm flange using the 8 holes of 10mm diameter on a 395mm PCD.
  • Elta state the zone inside and outside the fan can differ by no more than one zone (for example Zone 1 inside, Zone 2 outside), except when fitted with a flexible duct connection, where there is no zone separation. It is not suitable for Zone 0.
  • It is fixed speed, direct on line. Elta must be consulted before any speed controller or inverter is used, and the controller in the ancillary pack is not ATEX rated and must be mounted outside the hazardous area.
  • At start up check rotation, airflow direction and that motor current does not exceed the nameplate. Inspect AV mounts and earth bonding every 6 months, and check impeller tip clearance every 26,000 hours or 3 years.

You'll also need

  • Elta matching flanges 350mm (061B-0350) sold each, one per duct connection
  • Elta ancillary pack APK350/002 available to order, ask us. Its controller is not ATEX rated and must be mounted outside the hazardous area.
  • Elta AV mounts 062-002 available to order, ask us
  • Elta impeller side guard 078C-0350-C available to order, ask us. Guarding is not included with the fan.

What ATEX zones can the Elta SLCX355/4-3AC be used in?

It is marked Ex h IIB+H2 T4 Gb. Elta state it is not suitable for Zone 0, and the zone inside and outside the fan can differ by no more than one zone, for example Zone 1 inside and Zone 2 outside. The installer or site duty holder is responsible for zone classification, so check the marking on the label and Certificate of Conformity against your hazardous area drawing.

Which gases is the SLCX355/4-3AC certified for?

Gas group IIB plus hydrogen (IIB+H2) with temperature class T4 and equipment protection level Gb. The marking covers gas atmospheres only, so ask us before using it in a combustible dust zone.

How much air does the SLCX355/4-3AC move?

Up to 3096 m³/h (0.860 m³/s) at free air, 2333 m³/h at 100 Pa, which is the highest pressure in the Elta performance table for this model.

Can I use a speed controller with it?

It is supplied as a fixed speed, direct on line fan. Elta must be consulted before a speed controller or inverter is used, and the controller in the Elta ancillary pack is not ATEX rated and must be mounted outside the hazardous area.

What size flanges and duct does the SLCX355/4-3AC need?

It fits a 355mm duct. The flange is 425mm across with 8 holes of 10mm diameter on a 395mm PCD, the casing is 375mm long and the fan weighs 29 kg.

Can it be mounted vertically?

Yes. Elta allow mounting at any angle, for extract or supply, as long as the fan is properly supported. Wiring diagram 152-612 shows connections for both A and B flow directions, so check rotation and airflow direction at start up.
