Summary

The Elta SDA450/4-1AC is a 450mm Raptor SDA short cased axial fan for fitting in 450mm ductwork. It moves up to 6674 m³/h in free air, 5947 m³/h at 50 Pa and still 5119 m³/h at 100 Pa, the highest pressure in Elta's published table for this model.
A 4 pole single phase AC external rotor motor (220-240V 50Hz) runs at 1302 rpm and draws 545 W at best efficiency (2.45 A peak). It is insulated to Class F with integral thermal overload protection and suits speed control. The Ziehl-Abegg FE2owlet aerofoil impeller has serrated trailing edges and winglets for lower noise, the mild steel case is powder coated in RAL 7045 with an IP55 terminal box, the motor is IP54, and Elta give a 12 month warranty.
- 1 Phase
- AC Motor
- Up to 6674 m³/h
- Speed Controllable
What it is best used for
Ducted extract or supply on 450mm duct for sports halls, school kitchens, retail units, workshops and factory areas. At 50 Pa it moves 5947 m³/h, roughly 6 air changes an hour in a space of about 990 m³.
Above 100 Pa Elta publish no figures, so for long duct runs with filters, heater batteries or attenuators an inline mixed flow or centrifugal box fan is the safer choice. It is not suitable for corrosive or explosive atmospheres, and the air must stay between -20°C and +70°C.
Why choose this over alternatives
There are 4 Raptor SDA models in the 450mm case, and the choice comes down to supply, noise and control. This 4 pole single phase version runs from a standard 230V supply at 1302 rpm. In the same size there is also the Elta SDA450/6-1AC (6 pole single phase, 4536 m³/h, 42 dB(A)), the Elta SDA450/46-3AC (two speed three phase, 7182 m³/h, 50 dB(A)) and the Elta SDA450/4-1EC (single phase EC, 4903 m³/h, 56 dB(A)).
If you need more air, the Elta SDA500/4-1AC moves 8626 m³/h in free air. For a smaller duct the Elta SDA400/4-1AC gives 3611 m³/h. If the fan will sit in a wall or panel rather than in a duct, the Elta SPA450/4-1AC plate fan uses the same Raptor impeller and motor family on a square mounting plate.
Installation notes
- Fit it in the duct run at any angle, securely supported, with access for maintenance. The case is 255mm long with 12 holes of 10mm on a 487mm PCD at each end for Elta matching flanges 061A-0450-C, and mounting feet 060A-0450-C are available.
- Wire to Elta diagram 152-104B through the fitted IP55 terminal box (21mm cable entry), and connect the thermal cut-out leads (TB TB) into the control circuit so the motor is protected.
- For speed control Elta list the 149-EL61TK or 149-TC18 for this model; check the controller amp rating against the 2.45 A peak current.
- Fit a local means of isolation, and site the discharge so exhaust cannot be drawn back into a room through the open flue of a gas or fuel burning appliance.
- At first start check rotation, airflow direction and that the running current is within the rating plate. Inspect and clean the blades and guards at least every 12 months.
You'll also need
- Elta 149-EL61TK 6 amp electronic speed controller (listed by Elta for this fan)
- Elta 149-TC18 8 amp five step transformer controller (listed by Elta for this fan)
- Elta ancillary pack APK450SCD/001 (flexible connections, matching flanges, anti-vibration mounts and mounting feet) available to order, ask us

How much air does the Elta SDA450/4-1AC move?
Up to 6674 m³/h in free air, 5947 m³/h at 50 Pa and 5119 m³/h at 100 Pa.
What size duct does the SDA450/4-1AC fit?
450mm. The case has a 450mm internal diameter and 12 flange holes of 10mm on a 487mm PCD at each end, which match Elta's 061A-0450-C matching flanges.
Which speed controller do I need?
Elta list the 149-EL61TK or the 149-TC18 for this fan. The motor draws 2.45 A peak, so check the rating if you put more than one fan on a controller.
How noisy is it?
Elta quote 50 dB(A) at the inlet and 49 dB(A) at the outlet at 3m at full speed. Matching 1D and 2D flanged silencers (068-0450) are available to order if you need it quieter.
What power supply does it need?
A single phase 220-240V 50Hz supply. Peak current is 2.45 A at 230V, and Elta wiring diagram 152-104B applies. It must be wired by a qualified electrician with a local isolator.
Can it be mounted vertically or outside the building?
It can be mounted at any angle, horizontal or vertical. The motor is IP54 with an IP55 terminal box and the fan handles air from -20°C to +70°C, but it is designed to sit in ductwork rather than be exposed to the weather; on an external wall fit a weather cowl such as Elta SWC45/50.
