Summary
See more specification See less specification
The Elta SDA400/4-1EC is a 400mm Raptor SDA short cased axial fan for fitting in 400mm ductwork. It moves up to 5076 m³/h in free air, 4388 m³/h at 100 Pa and still 3409 m³/h at 200 Pa, the highest pressure in Elta's published table for this model.
A single phase EC external rotor motor (200-277V 50/60Hz) with an integrated variable speed drive runs at up to 1811 rpm and draws 490 W at best efficiency (2.29 A peak), with internal electronic overload protection. Speed is set by a 0-10V signal or Elta's 149-POT-10-MI potentiometer. The Ziehl-Abegg FE2owlet aerofoil impeller has serrated trailing edges and winglets for lower noise, the mild steel case is powder coated in RAL 7045 with an IP55 terminal box, the motor is IP54, and Elta give a 12 month warranty.

- EC Motor
- Up to 5076 m³/h
- Speed Controllable
What it is best used for
General ducted ventilation on 400mm duct in school kitchens, retail units, classrooms, squash courts and workshops. At 50 Pa it moves 4766 m³/h, roughly 6 air changes an hour in a space of about 790 m³.
It still gives 3409 m³/h at 200 Pa, but Elta publish no figures for it beyond that, so very high resistance systems need a mixed flow or centrifugal fan. It is not suitable for corrosive or explosive atmospheres, and the air must stay between -20°C and +70°C.
Why choose this over alternatives
There are 2 Raptor SDA models in the 400mm case, and the choice comes down to supply, noise and control. This EC version gives fully variable speed from a 0-10V signal with no separate controller needed for BMS control, and at 49.5% overall efficiency it is more efficient than the AC equivalent (31.1% for the SDA400/4-1AC). In the same size there is also the Elta SDA400/4-1AC (4 pole single phase, 3611 m³/h, 49 dB(A)).
If you need more air, the Elta SDA450/4-1EC moves 4903 m³/h in free air. For a smaller duct the Elta SDA350/4-1EC gives 4316 m³/h. If the fan will sit in a wall or panel rather than in a duct, the Elta SPA400/4-1EC plate fan uses the same Raptor impeller and motor family on a square mounting plate.
Installation notes
- Fit it in the duct run at any angle, securely supported, with access for maintenance. The case is 205mm long with 12 holes of 10mm on a 438mm PCD at each end for Elta matching flanges 061A-0400-C, and mounting feet 060A-0400-C are available.
- Wire to Elta diagram 152-00298951 through the fitted terminal box (21mm cable entry). For variable speed connect a 0-10V signal or the 149-POT-10-MI potentiometer to the 10V, E1 and GND terminals.
- Disconnect the fan before any insulation resistance testing. Elta warn this can damage the EC electronics and is not covered by warranty.
- Fit a local means of isolation, and site the discharge so exhaust cannot be drawn back into a room through the open flue of a gas or fuel burning appliance.
- At first start check rotation, airflow direction and that the running current is within the rating plate. Inspect and clean the blades and guards at least every 12 months.
You'll also need
- Elta EC electronic controller 149-POT-10-MI (the potentiometer controller Elta list for every EC Raptor SDA)
- Elta ancillary pack APK400SCD/001 (flexible connections, matching flanges, anti-vibration mounts and mounting feet) available to order, ask us

Payment Methods
Your payment information is processed securely. We do not store credit card details nor have access to your credit card information.
How much air does the Elta SDA400/4-1EC move?
Up to 5076 m³/h in free air, 4766 m³/h at 50 Pa, 4388 m³/h at 100 Pa and 3409 m³/h at 200 Pa.
What size duct does the SDA400/4-1EC fit?
400mm. The case has a 400mm internal diameter and 12 flange holes of 10mm on a 438mm PCD at each end, which match Elta's 061A-0400-C matching flanges.
How do I control the speed?
The motor has a built in variable speed drive. Use Elta's 149-POT-10-MI potentiometer, which we stock, or a 0-10V signal from a BMS. At a 5V signal it still moves 2423 m³/h at 41 dB(A).
How noisy is it?
Elta quote 58 dB(A) at the inlet and 58 dB(A) at the outlet at 3m at full speed. Matching 1D and 2D flanged silencers (068-0400) are available to order if you need it quieter.
What power supply does it need?
A single phase 200-277V 50/60Hz supply. Peak current is 2.29 A at 230V, and Elta wiring diagram 152-00298951 applies. It must be wired by a qualified electrician with a local isolator.
Can it be mounted vertically or outside the building?
It can be mounted at any angle, horizontal or vertical. The motor is IP54 with an IP55 terminal box and the fan handles air from -20°C to +70°C, but it is designed to sit in ductwork rather than be exposed to the weather; on an external wall fit a weather cowl such as Elta SWC35/40.
