Summary

The Elta SCP250/4-3AC is a 250mm Compact SCP plate mounted axial fan with a three phase 4 pole AC motor, moving up to 1188 m³/h in free air and working against static pressures up to 50 Pa. It is built for moving large volumes of air against low resistance through a wall, panel or bulkhead.

The 380-415V induction motor runs at 1460 rpm with greased for life ball bearings, drawing 90 W and 0.32 A. The Series 1 impeller has adjustable pitch GRP aerofoil blades, the mild steel plate and motor are powder coated and the guards epoxy coated, an IP55 terminal box is fitted on 550mm of flexible conduit, and Elta give a 12 month warranty.

  • 3 Phase
  • AC Motor
  • Up to 1188 m³/h
  • Speed Controllable

What it is best used for

Through-wall extract or supply on three phase sites in plant rooms, stores, small workshops, garages and back of house rooms in shops. At 1188 m³/h it gives about 6 air changes an hour in a space of roughly 198 m³, for example 11m x 6m with a 3m ceiling.

It is a low pressure fan. The datasheet shows airflow only up to 50 Pa, so it is the wrong choice for ducted systems or heavy louvres; use a cased axial or inline mixed flow fan there. When speed controlled Elta limit the air temperature to +50°C (+70°C at fixed speed), and it is not suitable for corrosive or explosive atmospheres.

Why choose this over alternatives

The single phase Elta SCP250/4-1AC is the same size (954 m³/h, up to 50 Pa, 80 W, 42 dB(A)), for sites without three phase. For built in speed control without an inverter, the Elta SCP250-1EC gives 868 m³/h, up to 75 Pa, 58 W, 45 dB(A).

Installation notes

  • Mount the 370 x 370mm fan plate securely at any angle using the four 10mm holes on 320mm centres. Make sure the structure can carry its 7 kg and leave access for maintenance.
  • Wire to Elta diagram 152-611 through the IP55 terminal box on 550mm of 20mm flexible conduit. The thermal cut-out must be wired into the starter control circuit.
  • For variable speed Elta list the 149-TC33 five step transformer controller or an Eltadrive inverter (149-ODE3-14075-3KA1B 3 phase to 3 phase, or 149-ODE3-12037-1KB1B from a single phase supply).
  • Fuses and circuit breakers only give short circuit protection, so Elta advise a starter with overload protection. Do not use the isolator for day to day on and off control, as it shortens motor life.
  • At first start check rotation (swap any two supply phases to reverse it) and that the running current does not exceed the rating plate. Inspect and clean blades and guards at least every 12 months.

How much air does the Elta SCP250/4-3AC move?

Up to 1188 m³/h in free air, and 796 m³/h at 50 Pa.

What size hole and plate does it need?

It fits a 250mm opening. The square plate is 370 x 370mm with four 10mm fixing holes on 320mm centres.

Does it need a three phase supply?

Yes, 380-415V 50Hz. For a single phase site choose the SCP250/4-1AC, or run this fan from a single phase to three phase Eltadrive inverter (149-ODE3-12037-1KB1B).

How can I control the speed?

Elta list the 149-TC33 five step transformer controller and the 149-ODE3-14075-3KA1B inverter. Speed controlled, the maximum air temperature is +50°C.

How noisy is it?

Elta quote 42 dB(A) at 3m at full speed.

Can it be mounted horizontally?

Yes. Elta say the fan can be mounted at any angle, so it suits walls, bulkheads and horizontal panels.
