The Elta Multiflow SMB450/4-3AC is a 450mm square inline mixed flow box fan with a three phase AC motor, moving up to 3920 m³/h in free air and still delivering 533 m³/h against 300 Pa. It fits straight into 450mm ductwork on Ductmate flanges at each end.
The 4 pole motor runs at 1375 rpm on a 380 to 415V 50Hz supply, absorbing 0.378 kW with a peak current of 0.88 A, and has sealed for life bearings. The casing is stiffened pre-galvanised sheet steel, the impeller has 7 backward curved aerofoil blades in high performance composite, and it handles air up to 60°C. Elta give a 12 month warranty.

What it is best used for
Medium sized commercial extract and supply on a three phase supply with 450mm ductwork: restaurant and commercial kitchen extract (behind a filtered canopy), lift motor rooms, plant rooms, warehouse offices and general HVAC. It holds 3290 m³/h at 100 Pa and 2578 m³/h at 200 Pa, so it copes with a run that includes a silencer and several fittings.
Its curve falls away sharply after 250 Pa (533 m³/h at 300 Pa), so for high resistance systems or anything over about 4000 m³/h choose the SMB550/4-3AC instead.
Why choose this over alternatives
Against the single phase SMB450, the three phase SMB450/4-3AC moves a little more air (3920 against 3830 m³/h at 0 Pa) and draws 0.88 A per phase at 400V instead of 2.05 A on a single phase supply. Against the SMB400/4-3AC, it adds about 1400 m³/h and goes on to 300 Pa where the 400 stops at 200 Pa.
The SMB500/4-3AC has almost identical performance with a 500mm connection, so pick between them on duct size.
Installation notes
- Mount the fan at any angle in the duct, securely supported, and leave access for maintenance. It weighs 23 kg.
- Connect with the 450mm Ductmate flanges at each end. Elta's 450mm flexible connectors (063-0450-MFB) and anti vibration mounts (062-002) reduce transmitted noise and vibration.
- Wire to Elta diagram 152-106A: star connection for a 400V three phase supply. To reverse rotation swap any two incoming supply cables, and check rotation and airflow direction on first start.
- Fit a means of isolation, earth the fan, and protect the motor with a starter that has overload protection; fuses and breakers only give short circuit protection.
- Not for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. Inspect and clean the impeller and motor at least every 12 months.
