The Elta Multiflow SEL355/4-1AC is a 355mm mixed flow inline duct fan with a single phase 4 pole AC motor, moving up to 2570 m³/h in free air and 2124 m³/h against 100 Pa. A diagonal mixed flow impeller and 3D stator guide vanes give it far more pressure than an axial fan of the same diameter.
The motor runs at 1438 rpm on 220 to 240V 50Hz, absorbing 0.15 kW at its best efficiency point with integral thermal overload protection, and it is wired through an integral IP44 terminal box. The casing is weatherproofed to IPX4, the fan mounts at any angle on its integral bracket, and Elta give a 12 month warranty.

What it is best used for
Quiet, low pressure ventilation on 355mm duct from a single phase supply: offices, classrooms, meeting rooms and hotel areas where the duct run is short and the fan sits near people. It moves 2124 m³/h at 100 Pa at just 43 dB(A) inlet at 3m.
It is a low pressure 4 pole fan: the curve drops to 353 m³/h at 200 Pa and 108 m³/h at 250 Pa. Do not use it on systems above about 150 Pa; the 2 pole SEL355/2-1AC is the high pressure version of this size.
Why choose this over alternatives
Against the 2 pole SEL355/2-1AC, this 4 pole model uses a fraction of the power (0.15 kW against 0.955 kW) and is much quieter (43 against 59 dB(A) inlet at 3m), at the cost of pressure. On a short, low resistance run it is the cheaper fan to run and the easier one to live with.
Installation notes
- The fan can be mounted in any orientation. Slide it into the duct and fix it with the integral mounting bracket, making sure the ductwork is not strained, and connect duct to both inlet and outlet so no moving parts are accessible.
- Elta recommend padded connection sleeves or fast clamps (018-355-CLAMP) to cut noise transmitted into the ductwork. Run the airflow in the direction marked on the casing.
- Wire into the integral IP44 terminal box to Elta diagram 152-540. Elta specify the 149-TC12 5 step transformer controller (2 A) for speed control; at lower steps the fan runs at 1365, 1275 and 940 rpm.
- The internal thermal protection does not protect the motor if the impeller is blocked, so where that could happen fit a motor protection switch with thermal and magnetic release. Fit a means of isolation and earth the fan.
- Install indoors in a dry, condensation free space: Elta's installation manual says SEL fans must not be operated out of doors, and they are not for explosive atmospheres. Clean the impeller and casing at the recommended intervals; an upstream filter extends them.
