The Elta Jetflow SJMF250 is a 250mm inline mixed flow circular duct fan with a single phase EC motor, moving up to 1606 m³/h in free air and 1159 m³/h against 300 Pa. Its jet design double mixed flow impeller is driven directly by a brushless EC motor running at 3195 rpm, absorbing 0.172 kW at full speed.
The IPX4 motor has sealed for life heavy duty NWB bearings and is rated for air up to 60°C. It arrives with a 1.5m mains lead and UK 3 pin plug (3A fuse) for fixed speed running, plus a detachable 5m jack lead for a potentiometer, 0-10V or PWM speed signal. Elta give a 24 month warranty.

What it is best used for
Larger commercial systems on 250mm duct: restaurant dining areas, pub and bar ventilation, school halls, retail units and office floors, and supply or extract on general HVAC systems. It holds 1537 m³/h at 100 Pa and still moves 1159 m³/h at 300 Pa, which covers most ducted systems with a filter and attenuation.
It is not a kitchen canopy grease extract fan and is not for corrosive or explosive atmospheres. For more than about 1600 m³/h, use the Elta SJMF315.
Why choose this over alternatives
Within the Jetflow range, the SJMF250 sits between the SJMF200 (968 m³/h free air) and the SJMF315. It has the same plug-in EC design as its siblings, so the choice comes down to duct size and duty: at 100 Pa this size delivers 1537 m³/h for 0.172 kW.
If the fan sits above an occupied ceiling, compare the SJMF250-S, which has an acoustic enclosure and is rated at 44 dB(A) at 3m against 55 dB(A) for this standard model, with almost the same airflow. The standard SJMF250 is shorter, lighter at 3.7 kg and lower cost, so it is the better buy where noise is not the deciding factor.
Installation notes
- The fan can be mounted at any angle. Fix it securely to a solid surface and leave access for cleaning and maintenance. Sizes 150mm and above have a detachable mounting bracket.
- Connect to 250mm duct with Elta fast clamps (018-250-CLAMP) or flexible connectors so the fan can be removed later. Elta recommend silencers on the inlet and outlet in noise sensitive areas.
- Mains connection is by the fitted 1.5m lead and UK 3 pin plug with a 3A fuse. The fan is supplied for fixed speed; for speed control, remove the 3.5mm jack plug and connect the supplied jack cable to a 149-POT-10-MI, 0-10V or PWM signal (wiring diagram 152-553).
- Do not supply it through a timer or a regularly switched circuit: the EC motor has internal overload protection and may restart unexpectedly once it cools. Indoor use only, ambient -10°C to +60°C, not for corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
- Locate the discharge so exhaust cannot be drawn back through the open flue of a gas or solid fuel appliance, and inspect and clean the fan at least every 12 months.

What duct size does the Elta SJMF250 fit?
It has 250mm circular spigots at each end. Elta recommend fast clamps or flexible connectors so it can be taken out for maintenance.
How much air does the SJMF250 move?
Up to 1606 m³/h (0.446 m³/s) in free air at full speed, 1537 m³/h at 100 Pa and 1159 m³/h at 300 Pa, the highest pressure in Elta's table for this size.
Does the SJMF250 plug into a normal socket?
Yes. It comes with a 1.5m mains lead and a UK 3 pin plug with a 3A fuse, which also gives you a simple means of isolation. It runs single phase 220 to 240V.
How do I control the speed of the SJMF250?
Remove the 3.5mm jack plug and connect the supplied 5m jack lead to an Elta 149-POT-10-MI controller, a 0-10V signal from a BMS or a PWM signal. It works from a 2V control signal upwards.
How noisy is the SJMF250?
Elta quote 55 dB(A) inlet and 56 dB(A) outlet at 3m at full speed. Spigot silencers from 300 to 1200mm long are available, or choose the acoustically enclosed SJMF250-S for quieter running.
Can the SJMF250 be mounted vertically?
Yes. Elta state the fan can be mounted at any angle, as long as it is securely supported and accessible for maintenance.
