Summary
See more specification See less specification
The Elta Clearflow CFHT450 is a 450mm roof mounted centrifugal fan with vertical discharge, rated for operating temperatures up to +120°C. It moves up to 4950 m³/h at free air and 968 m³/h at 500 Pa, the highest pressure in Elta's performance table, and it throws the exhaust upwards, away from occupied areas.
The three phase TEFC motor (380-415V 50Hz, 4 pole, 1445 rpm) sits out of the air stream, is IP55 rated with sealed for life bearings and Class F insulation, and drives a free running impeller with 7 backward curved, powder coated steel blades. The casing is pre-galvanised sheet steel, a wind guard is fitted as standard, and Elta give a 12 month warranty.
- 3 Phase
- AC Motor
- Up to 4950 m³/h
- Speed Controllable
What it is best used for
Roof extract for school and college kitchens, larger restaurant kitchens, hospital kitchens and bakery ovens, or industrial units with hot process air. It moves 4950 m³/h free air and about 3557 m³/h at 300 Pa, so longer duct runs and grease filters are not a problem.
It is not a smoke extract fan: Elta rate it for continuous running with air up to +120°C and the datasheet gives no smoke or fire temperature/time rating, so use a certified smoke fan where one is specified. It is three phase only and must run through an Eltadrive variable speed drive, so budget for the drive. For a ducted fan inside the building rather than on the roof, look at a high temperature box fan instead.
Why choose this over alternatives
A roof mounted fan keeps the motor and the noise outside the building and puts the discharge high above the roof line. Unlike a roof fan with its motor in the airflow, the CFHT450 keeps its motor out of the air stream and is rated for air up to +120°C, so it suits grease laden or hot extract that would shorten the life of a fan with the motor in the airflow. The base can sit on a roof pitched at up to 15°, which can save building a level upstand.
The Clearflow range runs from 350 to 630mm. For a smaller duty, the Elta Clearflow CFHT400 gives 2912 m³/h free air. If you need more, the Elta Clearflow CFHT500 gives 6790 m³/h. Elta's data show overall efficiency of 50.0% at the best efficiency point for this size.
Installation notes
- Mount on the roof with the discharge vertical. The fan can be fitted at angles up to 15°, so it can go directly onto a pitched roof.
- An Eltadrive variable speed drive must be installed with this fan. For a single phase site Elta list 149-ODE3-12075-1KB1Y (IP66) or 149-ODE3-12075-1KB12 (IP20), which run the three phase motor from a single phase supply; for a three phase site use 149-ODE3-14150-3KA1Y (IP66) or 149-ODE3-14150-3KA12 (IP20).
- Wire to Elta wiring diagram 152-600 and provide a local means of isolation. Use an IP66 drive if it will be mounted outside next to the fan.
- The fan weighs 75 kg. Check that the roof, upstand or kerb can carry it, and leave safe access for cleaning.
- The wind guard lifts off for cleaning, and the motor sits out of the air stream, so grease build up can be cleaned from the impeller and casing without disturbing the motor.

What airflow does the Elta Clearflow CFHT450 deliver?
Up to 4950 m³/h (1.375 m³/s) at free air, about 4536 m³/h at 100 Pa and 968 m³/h at 500 Pa.
What temperature can the CFHT450 handle?
Elta rate the CFHT range for operating temperatures up to +120°C, with the motor out of the air stream. That is a continuous running rating for hot or greasy extract. The datasheet does not give a smoke extract or fire rating, so it should not be used where a certified smoke fan is required.
Can it handle grease laden kitchen air?
Yes. Elta designed the Clearflow for clean, grease laden or contaminated air. The motor is out of the air stream and the wind guard lifts off for cleaning access.
Do I need a speed controller for the CFHT450?
Yes. Elta state that an Eltadrive variable speed drive must be installed with this fan. Use 149-ODE3-12075-1KB1Y or 149-ODE3-12075-1KB12 on a single phase supply, or 149-ODE3-14150-3KA1Y or 149-ODE3-14150-3KA12 on a three phase supply.
What roof pitch can the CFHT450 be mounted on?
It can be mounted at angles up to 15°, so it can fit directly to a pitched roof without a levelling upstand.
How noisy is the CFHT450?
Elta quote 54 dB(A) at the inlet and 60 dB(A) at the outlet, measured at 3m in free field. Running it slower on the drive reduces noise.
