Summary

The Elta MOXA is a continuous running centralised MEV (mechanical extract ventilation) unit for whole house extraction, delivering up to 230 m³/h (63.8 l/s) at 100 Pa. One EC fan draws stale, humid air from up to four wet rooms at once through its four 125mm inlets and discharges outside through one 125mm outlet.

A built-in humidity sensor boosts fan speed by 15% when humidity passes an adjustable 50 to 95% threshold. The 36W brushless EC motor keeps running costs low, the unit is quoted at 14 dB(A) at 3m because it sits away from the room grilles, and it carries Elta's 5 year warranty.

What it is best used for

Whole house continuous extract in new build and refurbished houses and flats, drawing from kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites, toilets and utility rooms through one central fan in a heated cupboard, ceiling void or plant space. It replaces several intermittent fans with one quiet unit and one outside penetration.

MEV extracts only and recovers no heat. Where airtightness and heating costs justify it, whole house MVHR such as the Elta HAVA range is the better choice. Elta specify indoor installation in a heated space, so it is not for a cold, unheated loft.

Why choose this over alternatives

Compared with fitting an extract fan in every wet room, the MOXA gives one maintenance point, continuous low level extract with automatic humidity boost, and much lower noise in the rooms. Against heat recovery units such as the HAVA180H MVHR, it costs less and needs no supply ductwork, but recovers no heat.

For occupant control, Elta's SEL3V-I-MOXA 3 speed controller gives three speed selection, and the unit also accepts a two position switch, an Elta MEV control knob or an external 0-10V signal.

Installation notes

  • Install indoors in a heated space, vertically or horizontally, on a flat level surface strong enough to take the unit; wall, ceiling, false ceiling and floor mounting are all allowed.
  • Anti-vibration mounts (not supplied) are recommended, and leave room to open the removable panels for maintenance.
  • Connect the four 125mm inlets to the wet room extract valves and the 125mm outlet to the outside.
  • Set the operating mode on the dip switches (factory default is two speed with a remote switch), the speeds on trimmers V1 and V2 and the humidity threshold on trimmer HY.
  • Provide an omnipolar isolating switch with at least 3mm contact separation; installation by an authorised installer.

What is the Elta MOXA MEV?

A centralised mechanical extract ventilation unit that continuously extracts stale air from multiple wet rooms through one fan, delivering up to 230 m³/h at 100 Pa.

How is MEV different from MVHR?

MEV extracts stale air only. MVHR both extracts and supplies air and recovers heat. MEV is simpler and lower cost.

Does the MOXA boost automatically?

Yes. Its built-in humidity sensor raises fan speed by 15% when humidity passes the set threshold, adjustable from 50 to 95% RH.

How many rooms can the MOXA extract from?

It has four 125mm inlets, so up to four wet rooms, such as a kitchen, bathroom, en-suite and utility room.

Can the MOXA go in a cold loft?

Elta say the unit is for indoor installation in a heated space, so it should not be placed in a cold, unheated loft.

How can the occupant change the speed?

With a remote two position switch (the factory setting), Elta's SEL3V-I-MOXA 3 speed controller, an MEV control knob or a 0-10V signal.
