  • 6 Amp
  • Stepless electronic controller
  • Single phase AC

What it is best used for

Stepless speed control of larger single phase AC fans, or two smaller fans, with a combined peak current up to 6 A: kitchen extract, plant rooms, workshops and general supply or extract duties where the airflow needs balancing on site.

Elta's datasheets specify the TK version (149-EL61TK) for their own 6 A plate and case mounted fans, because those fans have thermal cut-out contacts. Use this standard EL61 where the fan has no thermal contacts to wire in. It is not for EC fans or three phase motors.

Why choose this over alternatives

Against the 3 A 149-EL31, the EL61 doubles the current rating in a near identical housing (0.40 kg against 0.35 kg). Against the 149-EL61TK, it has no thermal contact input, so choose the TK where the fan has thermal cut-out leads.

If stepless control causes hum on your motor, a 5-step transformer controller such as the 8 Amp 149-TC18 avoids it, at the cost of fixed steps and a much heavier unit.

Installation notes

  • Check the fan's rating plate: the motor's peak current must not exceed 6 A.
  • Fix the controller in a dry indoor position; the enclosure is IP51 and rated for operating temperatures up to 40°C.
  • Wire to the terminal block (L, N, U1, U2, AUX, E) exactly as shown on Elta's wiring diagram, with the 240V supply in and the fan's variable live (brown) and neutral (blue) out. Two or three wire control is supported.
  • Set the minimum and maximum speed presets during commissioning so the fan cannot be turned down to a speed where it stalls or under-ventilates.
  • Installation by a qualified electrician with a means of isolation in the supply.

What fans can the Elta 149-EL61 control?

Voltage controllable single phase AC fans whose peak motor current does not exceed 6 A.

What is the difference between the 149-EL61 and the 149-EL61TK?

The TK version wires into the fan's thermal cut-out contacts and switches off with a trip indicator if the motor overheats. The standard EL61 does not.

What supply does the 149-EL61 need?

A single phase 220 to 240V 50Hz supply.

Is the speed control on the 149-EL61 stepless?

Yes. It is fully stepless, with minimum and maximum speed presets set during commissioning.

Can the 149-EL61 control an EC or three phase fan?

No. It is for single phase AC motors only.

What is the IP rating of the 149-EL61?

IP51, for dry indoor locations with operating temperatures up to 40°C.
